Singapore Airlines opens new first class lounges

Frequent flyers can look forward to two new Singapore Airlines First Class lounges at Changi Airport. The opening is planned for 2022.

The Changi Airport in Singapore was named the world's best airport for the eighth time in a row at the awards organized by “Skytrax”. But the airport's main customer, Singapore Airlines, also shone as the world's best airline in 2018. It is not for nothing that Changi Airport and Singapore Airlines enjoy a high reputation. Now the luxury is to be expanded by renovating outdated lounges. The new first-class lounge in SQ should therefore be completed in the coming year, as reported by the website Executivetraveller.com.

Refurbishment of the outdated lounges

reisetopia has already tested various lounges in Singapore in recent years, including the SilverKris Lounge in Terminal 3, the Singapore Airlines Private Room and the Plaza Premium Lounge. The reviews weren't exactly bad, but the lounges seem a bit old, which is why Changi Airport took around 50 million Singapore dollars to modernize the lounges. As a result, the Singapore airport operator hopes to have state-of-the-art lounges that will attract a large number of first and business class passengers.

The reopening of the two first class lounges in Terminal 3 Hub is planned for 2022. The entire major project also includes the renovation of the SilverKris Business Class Lounge, which is scheduled to open earlier, at the end of 2021. Now the renovation work is to be carried out SilverKris First Class Lounge and The Private Room follow a year later. We have already explained to you in another article how exactly the makeover should take place in four phases. However, new information about the interior design has now been revealed.

The US company Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), an international engineering company specializing in the catering and hotel industry, has based the design of the new lounges on the principles of Singapore Airlines as an Asian luxury brand. The focus is on elegance, which shouldn't look ostentatious but rather simple. Each lounge already has a specific trademark. The SilverKris First Class Lounge is equipped with a large bar, while The Private Room shines with an impressive dining room. These two trademarks should continue to be in the foreground and create recognition among the guests. The lighting conditions are optimized with eye-catching crystal light installations from the French luxury brand Lalique.

The two lounges are currently connected to each other. This means that every premium traveler enters the SilverKris lounge area on the upper level of T3. Access to the First Class Lounge is at the end of a corridor that separates the Business Class Lounge and the entrance to The Private Room is in turn hidden in another corner of the First Class Lounge. So far it is unclear whether this complex, nested floor plan will also be revised so that one does not have to cross several lounges. Overall, that would certainly contribute to more peace and quiet and a more pleasant atmosphere.

The SilverKris First Class Lounge will then continue to be available to all First Class passengers of the various Star Alliance partner airlines, while The Private Room is reserved exclusively for First Class passengers of Singapore Airlines. Both lounges will only be temporarily closed for the renovation in 2022.

Conclusion on the new first class lounge

Changi Airport is currently busy renovating some parts of the large airport, such as the lounges and Terminal 2. As a result, the exclusive accommodation options for first and business class guests as well as the entire airport should appear in new splendor - as one is used to from Singapore.

Can the airport get any better? Perhaps the major construction project will guarantee the ninth Skytrax Award in a row!
