What is the Ram Nandan Committee

Indian government publishes critical report on NSDC and SSC

The committee presented the report on December 10, 2016. Shri Rohit Nandan, who retired on January 31, 2017, left it to his successor, Dr. K. P. Krishnan how the conclusions and recommendations of the report are handled. Ultimately, Krishnan decided to publicize the report on April 26, 2017 and initiate a public debate about it.

The advocates of the "NSDC line" will also speak out in this debate. It is to be expected that the recommendations of the report will not be implemented in full.

However, it can be assumed that considerable corrections will be made to the structure and functioning of the NSDC and its subordinate institutions such as the SSCs. This is necessary in order to raise the quality standards of the vocational training measures and to harmonize the state vocational training landscape more.

It remains to be seen to what extent this will have practical consequences, such as improving market opportunities for German providers in India.

In any case, the unusually open and critical report offers a multitude of starting points for an in-depth dialogue, for example between German experts and Indian stakeholders in government and business.
