What does social bullying mean
5 types of bullying
Last update: December 21, 2017
Unfortunately, bullying is becoming a major problem in schools. Places where young kids mistreat their insecure classmates who have acne on their faces, or who aren't the best looking kids. And this kind of bad treatment is not always physical.
There are many reasons why children bully others. Most of them are related to their own terrible insecurity, poor self-esteem, or traumatic childhood experiences that may be lingering.
"One in ten students says they have been a victim of bullying."
Save the Children
This means that there are different types of bullying. Now we're going to take a look at a couple of the species outlined by the National Center Against Bullying. We go into detail with each type so that you can better understand what each is made of.
1. Physical bullying
This is the most visible way in which the bat uses his physical strength to terrorize the victim. With kicks, punches and other types of physical aggression, the attacker tries to humiliate and suppress the victim.
It is important to note that this type of bullying tends to take place in the company of others. In the company of friends who cheer and incite the bat. That way the bat feels strong, strong, like a leader.
Even if the strongest beating does not take place in public, it could instead be “lighter” signs of this type of bullying. Tripping her, kicking her table, stealing her backpack - these can all be little warning signs. which may indicate a possible case of bullying.
2. Verbal bullying
This type of bullying is more common since for many people verbal bullying is "child's business". But how can it be a child's business when the person who receives the jokes, insults, and derogatory words end up suffering and seeing their self-esteem destroyed?
Verbal bullying can be anything from insults to jokes about your sexual orientation, physical characteristics, weak points, tics, or origins.
When asked why they are humiliating and bullying their classmates, the answer is usually "I don't know" or "It was just a joke."
Young people in particular are deeply hurt to receive these comments, because they are in a sensitive phase of life. That is why it is so important to get to the root of the problem. Many people who are victims of verbal bullying have a very difficult time rebuilding their self-esteem and believing in themselves again.
3. Social bullying
This is one of the least known and probably the most widely used forms of bullying. Imagine that you want to play in a soccer game. But nobody chooses, or excuses are used to say that all positions have already been filled by the other classmates.
Or imagine yourself seeing your friends commenting on pictures from a party you weren't invited to. They specifically left you out. They kicked you out of the group you thought you belonged to.
This is a delicate form of bullying where you can't count on the people you need to be in class with and work with. They turn their backs on you and shut you out. The emotional pain this can cause can be very difficult to overcome, because rejection is one of people's greatest fears.
4. Cyber bullying
This type of bullying began on social media, which are very important for young people. Many dare to publicly share their experiences, private feelings, and anything they like and dislike.
Another example of cyber bullying could be that the victim uploads a photo and then suddenly a bunch of people start leaving negative comments like "you should lose weight" or "disgusting!" who uploaded the photo, a bare and embarrassed feeling.
Up to 37% of minors in Spain suffer from cyber bullying.
There are also situations in which the person bullying has a photo of the victim that looks bad or is doing something embarrassing. In doing so, she threatens the victim to upload it in order to manipulate it in this way. She does it by sending the victim private messages that cause him a lot of stress.
5. Sexual bullying
Chances are you've never heard of this type of bullying, maybe because it involves quite obscene behavior. This leads a lot of people to deny that there are children and teenagers out there who do this.
Among the behaviors found under this category are misogynist, sexist comments related to the victim's body. But in many cases, they also touch the victim inappropriately without their consent, making them feel humiliated.
Imagine a boy bullying a girl in his class. He could urge her to kiss him all the time, touch him between the legs, or watch erotic videos or movies with him. This can traumatize them and cause problems in their emotional and intimate relationships in the future.
"I lied to my mother so I wouldn't have to go to school because I knew they would catch me at the entrance."
David, 12 years old
Perhaps you thought that the bullying only came in one form. But the truth is, there are several types that don't get that much attention. That's why nobody at school notices that someone is being bullied.
There are many schools today that have yet to learn how to deal with bullying. So far they haven't really solved it in the best way. A recent news story tells the story of Diego, an eleven year old, who left the following note before committing suicide: "I can't stand going to school anymore and there is no other way to stop me."You might be interested in ...
