What does God say about self-righteousness

What Does the Bible Tell Us About Pride?

There is a difference between the kind of pride God hates (Proverbs 8:13) and the kind of pride we feel when we've done a job well. The kind of pride that leads to self-righteousness is sin, and God hates it because it is an obstacle to seeking God. Psalm 10: 4 explains that the proud are so preoccupied with themselves that their thoughts are far from God: “The wicked thinks in his pride that God does not ask about it. "It is not a God," are all of his thoughts. "This kind of haughty pride is the opposite of the spirit of humility and humility that God desires:" Blessed are those who are spiritually poor; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ”(Matthew 5: 3) The“ spiritual poor ”is the one who recognizes his spiritual bankruptcy, his inability to reach God without His divine grace. The proud, on the other hand, is so blinded by his pride that he thinks he has no need for God, or worse, that God has to accept him for who he is because he deserves His acceptance.

Throughout scripture we are told what the consequence of pride is. Proverbs 16: 18-19 says: “Whoever should perish first becomes proud; and pride comes before the fall. Better to be low with the humble than share booty with the proud. ”Satan was cast out of heaven for pride (Isaiah 14: 12-15). He had the audacity to replace God as the rightful ruler of the universe. But Satan will be cast into hell by God in the final judgment. For those who rebel against God, there is nothing but disaster in their future (Isaiah 14:22).

Pride prevented many people from accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. Admitting sin and recognizing that there is nothing we can do on our own to obtain eternal life is a major obstacle for many proud people. We're not supposed to show off; if we want to show off, for about the glory of God. What we say about ourselves means nothing in work for God. It is what God says about us that makes the difference (2 Corinthians 10:13).

Why is pride so sinful? Pride gives us credit for something God has made. Pride means claiming honor for something that belongs to God alone. Pride is basically self-worship. Everything we achieve in this world would not be possible if God had not enabled us to do so and if our achievements were not preserved for us. "Because who gives you priority? What do you have that you did not receive? But when you have received it, what do you boast about as if you had not received it? ”(1 Corinthians 4: 7) That is why we give glory to God - He alone deserves it. English
