What is the average IQ of men

On average, men have a higher intelligence quotient (IQ) than women.

At least that is the result of a large-scale study by British scientists that has now been partially published.

In their research, Paul Irwing and Richard Lynn of the Center for Psychology at the University of Manchester found that the IQ of men over the age of 14 averages five points higher than that of women. And the higher the IQ, the greater the gap between men and women, according to the study.

According to the study, there is no difference between boys and girls up to the age of 14, but after that there is: Twice as many men as women have an IQ above 125 points.

From the limit of 155, which is assigned to geniuses, there is even only one woman for every 5.5 men. Perhaps the results of the study explained in part why there are more men among the chess masters, among the winners of math competitions, or among the Nobel Prize winners, Irwing said.

However, women work more efficiently

With the same IQ value, women are more efficient than men, added Irwing. They are more conscientious and tolerate working for longer periods of time better.

For the study, 80,000 people were tested in a first phase, and another 20,000 in a second. The entire study is due to be published in a UK psychology journal by the end of the year.
