Is Jesus our father

Keyword: Our Father, Our Father

The prayer that Jesus taught the people.

The text of the so-called "Our Father" is handed down in Matthew 6: 9-13 and Luke 11: 1-4. First of all, it is the disciples' prayer that Jesus teaches them so that they can turn to God in the right way. This is emphasized by the fact that the disciples are allowed to address God with the familiar form of address "Father" (Aramaic = Abba). The Lord's Prayer expresses three things: All who pray it today profess that they believe in God the Father and trust him. At the same time, they express that they see themselves as children of God. After all, they show that they still want to follow God today - like a disciple - and live with him.

Later manuscripts add a final praise to the texts handed down in Matthew and Luke: “You own rule and power and honor forever. Amen. «These were designed based on 1. Chronicles 29: 10-11.

The following ecumenical version is in use today in worship:

Our father in Heaven,

Blessed be your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will will happen,

as in heaven, so on earth.

Our daily bread Give us today.

And forgive us our debts

as we also forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

Because yours is the kingdom

and the power

and the glory forever.

Amen.
