How many minutes are there in 12 months

Convert time units - table and exercises

Conversion of time units

Converting time units is a little tricky. This is because the factor \$ 10 \$ is not always given, as is the case with the length unit conversion, for example, but instead \$ 60 \$, \$ 24 \$, \$ 7 \$ or \$ 365 \$ is used.

The following table gives you an overview of how the various units can be converted.

Figure: Convert times table

For the sake of simplicity, it was assumed that a year has 364 days and the hours and seconds were calculated from this. It was also assumed that each month consists of four weeks and thus has 28 days.

Let's take a closer look at some conversions:

Convert a smaller unit of time into a larger one

Generally, however, when converting from a smaller unit to a larger one divided become.

So must to get from Seconds to minutes to convert, to be divided by \$ 60 \$. Since \$ 120 s: 60 = 2 min \$ is not mathematically correct, the division factor must have a unit \$ \ rightarrow 60 \ frac {s} {min} \$.

How many minutes are \$ 30s, 180s \$, and \$ 630s \$? Now the seconds must be divided by \$ 60 \ frac {s} {min} \$:

\$ 30 s: 60 \ frac {s} {min} = 0.5 min \$

\$ 180 s: 60 \ frac {s} {min} = 3 min \$

\$ 630 s: 60 \ frac {s} {min} = 10.5 min \$

Around Minutes to hours To convert, we also have to divide by sixty. It is different when we Hours to days want to convert. This must be divided by \$ 24 \$, since a day consists of \$ 24 \$ hours.

How many days are \$ 36 hours?

\$ 36h: 24 \ frac {h} {d} = 1.5 d \$

\$ 36 hours are a day and a half.

To convert seconds into days, all units in between must be taken into account. So from second to minute (\$ 60 \$), from minute to hour (\$ 60 \$) and from hour to day (\$ 24 \$), \$ \ rightarrow 60 \ cdot60 \ cdot24 = 86400 \$. It has to be divided by \$ 86,400. The unit of this conversion factor is \$ \ frac {s} {d} \$ (from second to day).

Convert a larger unit into a smaller one

To convert from a larger unit to a smaller one, we need the conversion factor multiply.

For example, to convert 4 hours to minutes, you have to calculate \$ 60 \ frac {min} {h} \$. \$ \ rightarrow 4 h \ cdot 60 \ frac {min} {h} = 240 min \$
