Cool quark wrap

  • 1 medium sized towel
  • 500 g pack of quark from the refrigerator

This is how it works:

Wrap the linen cloth tightly around it and tie the towel tightly around it as an outer envelope. Let the compress work until the quark has reached body temperature. Repeat several times a day.

Warming wrap

In the case of chronic inflammation, on the other hand, moist heat helps. "It ensures stronger blood circulation and thus faster healing. It can also perfectly relax tense muscles," says Dietrich Grönemeyer. His tip: In addition to ointments that stimulate blood circulation with chilli, naturopathic compresses made from mustard flour or healing earth can help here too.

What is needed:

  • 1 cloth made of linen or cotton (a tea towel is also suitable)
  • 1 medium sized towel
  • 1 pack of mustard flour from the pharmacy
  • 1 medium bowl of water
  • 1 spoon to stir

This is how it works:
Put a portion of mustard flour in a bowl, add a little water and stir until a mushy paste is formed. Lay out the towels: the towel on the outside, the linen towel on the inside. Spread the linen cloth thinly with the mustard paste and place on the inflamed area. Wrap the towel tightly around it. Do not leave the wrap on for more than ten to fifteen minutes. Repeat daily depending on symptoms.

Leeches against inflammation

Leeches are small annelids that can do great things. In their saliva they have a kind of mini pharmacy that is extremely effective. Wherever the animals smell blood, they bite and begin to suckle. Leeches have three jaws arranged in a star shape and a total of 240 teeth. Sucking blood is secondary to the success of the treatment, it depends on the salivary enzymes.

"There are several dozen substances in saliva, 20 of which have been researched and they have an anti-inflammatory effect, stimulate lymphatic drainage, stimulate blood circulation, and very importantly: pain reliever", explains alternative practitioner Tobias Jähn from Leipzig. After about an hour, the animals are full and fall off. The wound bleeding can continue for up to two days. An anticoagulant enzyme is responsible for this. Therefore, leech therapy must not be used in all patients. In the next few days, redness and itching around the bite marks may occur.

The success of the therapy has also been scientifically proven. "The clinical studies show that we have an effect of six to nine months after an initial treatment, especially on the knee. If the treatment is repeated, the effect can even extend to one to two years. This is what we see in practice ", Says Tobias Jähn. The therapy with medicinal leeches may cost some patients a bit of effort, but the method has proven itself. It has been used successfully for centuries.
