Well worth buying Pixel 3a

Google Pixel 4a vs. Pixel 3a: is it worth the wait for the successor?

The availability of the new mid-range smartphone Google Pixel 4a is getting closer, while the prices of the predecessor Pixel 3a continue to fall. A new video now shows whether the wait is worthwhile and whether the performance plus of the new Android 10 model is paying off. The new Google Pixel 4a is expected in Germany on October 1st, pre-orders should be possible from September 10th. But a look at the price comparison shows that the predecessor Pixel 3a is currently being sold and is often even available at prices below 270 euros via the virtual counters of various online shops. As a result, there are increasing questions on the internet as to whether you should wait for Google's new Android smartphone for 340 euros or perhaps the 2019 model. At least in terms of performance, there is now a clear position.

Practical benchmarks show an additional performance of up to 30 percent

A new video by the Android Authority reporter Gary Sims shows that the Google Pixel 4a's performance plus is clearly noticeable in practice. In its benchmark Speed Test G, the performance of smartphones is to be tested under real conditions instead of with the usual synthetic procedures. While the Pixel 3a is equipped with the older Qualcomm Snapdragon 670, the Snapdragon 730G is used in the new Pixel 4a. The latter offers a higher clock rate of 2.2 GHz, a more modern manufacturing process and improved Adreno 618 graphics.

In addition to the comparison of the two eight-core chips, Google's upcoming mid-range smartphone is supported by 6 GB of RAM, while the predecessor can only rely on 4 GB of RAM. After various tests, which in particular push the processor and the graphics unit integrated in the SoC to their limits, both individually and in combination, the bottom line is that the new Google Pixel 4a has increased performance by up to 30 percent. The new smartphone also differs from the 2019 model in many other ways.

Improvements in the area of display, battery, camera and design

Compared to the Pixel 3a, you get a slightly larger OLED display with 5.8 inches (2340 x 1080 pixels), a battery that has grown to 3140 mAh, more internal flash memory (128 GB) and an improved single camera, which is already used in the Pixel 4. For many users, the design should also play a major role. Compared to older models, the Google Pixel 4a uses narrow bezels, a camera hole on the front and a completely matt plastic back. In the first test reports, the Pixel 4a is already described as "the best smartphone to date" in its price range.
