Does the red pill work

Tesla: Elon Musk tweeted "Take the red pill" - what's behind it

  • "Take the red pill," tweeted Tesla boss Elon Musk and again caused confusion in the Twitter community.
  • Musk could have referred to several things: to the film "Matrix", to right-wing ideology or to the Republican Party.
  • In any case, Ivanka Trump reacted promptly. "Took the red pill," she replied.

Next day, next puzzling Twitter message from Tesla boss Elon Musk. “Take the red pill,” he writes, leaving everyone confused. Really all? No, Ivanka Trump, daughter and advisor to US President Donald Trump, doesn't seem confused. “Took the red pill,” she replies. What?

It is often not that easy to decipher Musk's mind, let alone explain it. It is the same with his “red pill”. The tweet could basically refer to a scene in the 1999 film "Matrix". Morpheus tells the protagonist Neo that he lives in a computer simulation and has the choice of taking a red or blue pill.

He says, “If you take the blue pill, the story ends, then you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. If you take the red pill, you'll stay in wonderland and I'll show you how deep the rabbit hole is. ”It should be noted that Musk seems to believe that we are actually living in a computer simulation. At least he doesn't find this thought absurd. But why would Ivanka Trump of all people respond to this tweet?

Has Musk switched to the Republicans?

In fact, the "red pill" appears often on the right internet platforms. The “red pill” is more of a code word for the political awakening of the far right, which for many people manifested itself in the election of Donald Trump as US president. It could also simply be a reference to the popular color of Trump's party. In US political color theory, red stands for Republicans, blue for Democrats.

The latter in particular would probably explain why Ivanka Trump reacted so quickly. And it would go well with Musk's recent Twitter message.

Musk, who used to describe himself as "openly moderate" and supported the Democratic ex-presidential candidate Andrew Yang, recently railed increasingly against corona measures by the democratically governed state of California. Among other things, he called the instruction to stay home to prevent the virus from spreading "fascist". Musk's Tesla company in Fremont itself is affected by the shutdown measures. She stood still for weeks.

That could come full circle. Because who is still railing against the shutdown and supporting Musk's demand to reopen the economy? Exactly, Donald Trump.
