My favorite running shoes are, in my opinion, worn out relatively early, i.e. after a low mileage. Unfortunately, I won't be able to use the beautiful, light running shoes for much longer. That's why I dealt with the topic Durability of the running shoes and the official information from the manufacturer on service life and mileage.

Your running shoes are expected to be 500 to 1000 km hold. In addition to the mileage, the lifetime depends on various factors, because it is influenced by your weight and your running style, but also the surface of the running routes and of course the quality and robustness of the running shoes.
Most of the time you hear from one Running shoe performance from 600 to 800 km - after that the material is tired. The performance of the shoe then decreases rapidly and the risk of injury increases. No manufacturer will guarantee a specific mileage and officially only gives rough guide values, which can vary widely.

If the running shoes lasted forever and didn't wear out over time, the manufacturers would have dug their own grave. At some point the market will be saturated and the demand for new running shoes will drop rapidly. So the question is How seriously do manufacturers of running shoes take the robustness and durability of running shoes ?! You should just keep this question in mind, even if you read the statements of the manufacturers about the lifetime of their products.
Unfortunately, I was only able to find two brands that officially comment on the wear and tear of their running shoes. If you know other manufacturer information about the lifetime of running shoes, please write me a comment.
The lifetime of a running shoe always depends on the runner who wears it. Your weight and your running style, but also the surface you run on, have a great influence on how long your on will accompany you. As a rule of thumb, an On lasts between 482 and 800 kilometers. This is comparable to conventional running shoes, the midsole of which has lost its cushioning properties and is still run for too long by runners. Is it time to change your running shoes? A question that many runners ask themselves after running hundreds of kilometers. When the first symptoms such as knee pain or foot pain appear, it is actually too late and you should urgently consider changing your running shoes.

If you look at the sole of the running shoe from the side, this cushioning rubber compound makes up the majority of the sole. If you can see wrinkles or cracks here, this is a sign that the rubber can no longer fully develop back into its original shape. Wrinkles and tears in the Midsole are therefore another sign of the wear and tear of running shoes.
The Upper of the running shoes ensures a firm fit on the foot. With the life of the running shoes, the upper material also shows changes, signs of wear or even cracks and the grip and stability decrease. So every now and then you should take a closer look at the top of the running shoes, because smaller changes are often not immediately noticeable. The upper material of the running shoes should be checked for the following abnormalities at regular intervals: holes, strains, dents, tears
Extend the life of the running shoes / maintain running shoes
Running shoes should "recover" - it makes sense to wear several running shoes alternately if you run regularly. In this way, the material of the running shoes can regenerate and develop its full potential again before it is stressed again. The variety also makes sense for the feet, because different running shoes have different fits and cushioning and place different demands on the feet.
The right Cleaning the running shoes is done very easily with lukewarm water, a brush and a sponge. In this way, the coarse dirt can be removed relatively easily. Of course, when cleaning and caring for your running shoes, you should avoid using aggressive cleaning agents that can attack the material.
The Drying the running shoes is also an important point of proper care, because damp shoes are not only uncomfortable to wear, they also place unnecessary stress on the material. In order to dry the running shoes properly, you should remove the insole, because if necessary, fill the running shoe with newspaper and put it in a warm, well-ventilated place. Newsprint is used when the running shoe is really soaked - it can be removed after 2-3 hours. A heater can also be too warm for the running shoes and damage the material (glue). Of course, the dryer is also not the right place for running shoes.
Wash running shoes in the washing machine? Not a good idea!
From my own experience, I know that running shoes or sneakers look like new at first glance after being washed in the washing machine, but appearances are deceptive. The load from the washing process weakens the material of the running shoes. The glue that holds the individual parts of the running shoes together can be washed out and the durability decreases.

Track the lifetime and km performance of the running shoes
A “running shoe tracker” will tell you how many kilometers you have already run with your running shoes. Running shoe tracking makes it easy to determine the age and mileage of a running shoe. Some apps and the major manufacturers of running watches offer the option of saving running shoes and assigning them to the corresponding runs. This makes it very easy to check how many kilometers you have already run with the running shoes and how many hours you have been wearing the running shoes. Some platforms also offer the option of being reminded of the end of the service life. For example, when putting on your personal running shoe cabinet, you can sometimes enter how many kilometers you want to run with the running shoes. When these kilometers have "expired", you will automatically receive a notification.
