  • Breakfast: Boiled eggs, fried pork sausages or bacon, fried or deep-fried potatoes, toasted bread, pancakes, muesli or hot oatmeal are mostly eaten as breakfast items in Canada.
  • Lunch: It is mostly a light meal. Traditional Canadian lunch dishes are easy to make and, if possible, take away, such as sandwiches, soups or salads.

When in Canada, some of the delicacies are not to be missed. Some of them are:

  • Canadian Bacon: Traditional bacon comes from the pork belly, but Canadian bacon is loin made from lean pork that is cured and rubbed in cornmeal and then cut into thick slices. Many Canadian style foods like pizza and burgers also have bacon in them.
  • Poutine: One of the most important Canadian dishes from the French. This dish is the perfect representative of Canadian cuisine. It's basically a bowl of french fries with pepper sauce and cheese. Any Canadian dinner is just incomplete without poutine. Many cities also hold poutine festivals to celebrate this delicacy.
  • Butter Cake: This is one of the most traditional dishes in Canadian cuisine. With a flaky and tender crust and a center of butter, eggs, and mixed sugar, there are varieties that also have raisins added to them. It's easy to make, but tastes good. Once you've tried butter cake, you'll long for it when your trip to Canada is over. Almost all bakeries and cafes in Canada serve the butter cake, but some of the best can be found in rural Ontario.
  • Nanaimo Bar: This is a classic Canadian three-layer dessert made with vanilla-flavored butter icing, melted chocolate, and a flaky mixture. Hailing from Nanaimo, British Columbia, the dessert turns out more delicious when made with nuts, coconut, vanilla, peanut butter, and chocolate as toppings.
  • Pea Soup: This is a classic French-Canadian dish made with dried peas, vegetables, and charcuterie. This is a comfort food that is traditionally made from pork, peas and a range of herbs to give it a creamy texture. A bowl of this soup is a must have so you can feel comfortable during the harsh Canadian winters. Some variations are made by boiling yellow peas along with beets, carrots, and meat. It used to be made by travelers so that they could continue their journey, but now this dish has become a tradition for Canadians.

  • Montreal Bagels: These are circular loaves of bread with a hole in the middle. They taste best when served fresh, after being handmade and baked in the wood oven. When Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe came to Montreal, they brought this type of bread with them to Canada. In the past only Jewish communities made and sold these bagels, today they are often sold in Canadian markets and in grocery stores as well. Nowadays there are several types of Montreal bagels, including one with smoked salmon and cream cheese in them.
