What is the difference between metal and punk

Rock and Punk, what's the difference?

bartel (d.E.)
... and I just happened to be listening to "Part Time Punks" by TV Personalities (it's on the current RS supplement CD). Hehe.ClashCityRocker
@Mekonian:

Thanks for the information. In which direction is "Striplight" going?
I recently dug up some old concert photos from THE BOMB PARTY with Sarah Corinna and Jesus, among others.

And of course: the great Jon Langford - the only one without an "h with the Three Johns. The first LP" Atom Drum Bop "was / is very big theater -" Teenage Nightingales to Wax ". Classic.

Maybe another very good German band in that context: PVCMekonian
PVC also means "Pine Valley Cosmonauts"
* smile * ... Jon Langford's country project
and Mekons drummer Steve Goulding.

I don't know Striplight at all
Ingos are available at WWW.STRIPLIGHT.net

Do you know the band Shriekback in the
another MEKONS (Lu Edmonds) his mischief
drove? or the 3Mustafa3?

Incidentally, the Three Johns recently did
another CD released: Live in Chicago
(Concert from 2004)

Mekonian
Bartel - the TV personalities were good
Meet perhaps the most charming band in England
: -) .... seen in this way in Zurich at some point in the
80s ...

@Mekonian:

Of course I know Shriekback. The band was founded by Dave Allen - after leaving Gang of Four after "Solid Gold" (1981) - and Barry Endrews (formerly XTC). In the beginning they were very brittle and reminded partly of Clock DVA (even if without the fantastic broken saxophone with DVA). The best album for me is "Oil and Gold" (1985). Has very dark and partly electronically supported sound carpets - later I fell in love with their sounds. Something for electric tricksters. But the first albums were great.

At the T.V. Personalities I also like to think of the swell maps. After all, the brothers Epic Soundtracks and Nikki Sudden later continued to produce great bands and projects.

That thing about the Three Johns sounds good. Do I have to look outbartel (d.E.)
Yeah, in the 80s. I once experienced an incredible concert marathon with the Mekons (but it was already a topic somewhere here). I'll get out of there with you, because I wasn't / am not even a PartTime Punk, but not without telling you: I saw 3 Mustapha 3 a couple of times here in Hamburg (also in the 80s). Great band. Otherwise, happy name dropping continued for both of you. (; 0)????
is green day punk? or something elsejodie
I think the people are very different too ...
Do you know what I mean?robo
has any of you bangballs in the real existing gdr with iro and leather jacket bumped through the area and run into the hands of a police patrol? right? then you don't need to discuss any further !!! (dinosaurs never die :))rebel
Moinsen leutz !!
Who of you knows the punk band the Casualties ?!
Sure, also in Holland and Estonia, for example, sicka does good, real punk
Antidotes and psychological terror should be mentioned first
But of course, if you immediately name usa and england and germany for countries of punk, then you also meet so many pop-punk bands among them, it is logical, where success is quickly commercial !!!!
But bidde net argue about whether Green Day are punk or net !!
PUNX NOT DEADFlob
In my opinion, punk is not a matter of appearance, but of the attitude. Anyone can still be a hip hopper as long as they are politically correct, I think so todayRatatoesk
I don't know exactly what kind of stuff you're babbling, but punk never had anything to do with "politically correct".Stefan
The casualties are boring though.leprosy
Nostalgia punks with rather boring music and an appearance that ten or twenty years ago must have been very offensive.
oh yes and by the way also a band that settles in expensive hotels after the concerts and has fun in brothels ... what shit! stop Green Day for today's punk generation ...Bill
Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks) said, "Punk is badly played heavy metal." Nonsense, I think.Gap filler

Joe Strummer in an interview with Judy McGuire.

What do you think of music today? Who do you like?
Strummer: I'm into all the new punk. I like to hear Green Day on the radio. It's a lot better than the other shit they play in England, let me tell you that. I just toured with Offspring and got really tight with them. And my favorite group of the moment is Hepcat, from LA. They're the best ska band ever born in the United States of America - bar none. They are proper. If they split up, I'm gonna be pissed right off. I'm gonna fucking have a right depression. I just toured with them in Europe, we tried to get them to tour with us here, but they're in the studio now.

... by the way, the children of Strummer heard Blink182 at the time of the interview. What o.k. for him was ...

Strummer certainly has a much more relaxed attitude to the subject of punk than dogmatically contaminated theoretical dogmatists - who, moreover, are not allowed to postulate the grace of late birth for themselves ... and HEPCAT is big

I wouldn't necessarily put Strummer as the showcase punk rocker :)Gap filler
actually true.was true.what was it, with the whiskey in hand i'm changing my country now.joe strummer will live forever. what he was looking for will probably last forever. like strummer, no one has ever lived in it rock consumption revolutionized. the showpiece punk was drawn on any wall after his death!RZ
Punk is a style of music that evolved from rock'n'roll, rock and psychodelic rock in the mid-seventies and usually only uses three chords. The lyrics are often critical of society, express an attitude towards life or have no logically comprehensible content. Many fans of this music genre are known for their aversion to existing social norms and their sometimes rather garish styling (metal chains, garbage fashion) themselves often seem narrow-minded.The band The Sex Pistols has decisively shaped this style of music and also inspired many newer bands .
Dead Kennedys, Iggy Pop, and The Exploited pioneered the game, and today this style of music is largely commercialized.Jan

Not true at all!zebra
oh, you're just such a punk purist who refuses to make any changes in the scene! Anyway, I totally agree with Elklmark, Jenna and ESPECIALLY Freda!El Vez (The Mexican Elvis)
Nobody has a clue, but everyone opens their mouths! Go poop (or listen to Radiohead)!El Vez (The Mexican Elvis)
