In this country, logistics enjoys the reputation of being one of the most important economic sectors. Warehouse workers, dispatchers and supply chain managers find their livelihood here. But what about the salary in this professional field? Information on this can be found, for example, on the Internet portal www.haltsreporter.de. According to their surveys, a warehouse clerk earns a starting salary of between 1,600 and 2,700 euros gross per month. Above all in the chemical industry or in process engineering, warehouse employees earn a top salary that quickly averages just under 3,300 euros / month (gross). The operators of Das Internet portal further emphasize that well-trained warehouse clerks usually get a well-paid job quickly. Their starting salary is on average 2,020 euros gross. The disadvantage: with increasing professional experience it only increases marginally. After nine years of practice, an average of EUR 2,460 gross is transferred at the end of the month.

The highest salaries in Hesse, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg

The job portal Stepstone points out that the average salary paid in logistics depends on various factors. This results from the 2019 salary transport, for which the job portal asked 85,000 specialists and executives about their gross salary. Among other things, it became clear that the remuneration in the various federal states is very different. In Hessen, for example, an average gross wage of almost 60,000 euros is paid for jobs in the area of “purchasing, materials management and logistics”. Average salaries in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are at the same level. According to the Stepstone surveys, skilled workers earn less in Rhineland-Palatinate, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and North Rhine-Westphalia. The average gross wage there is 55,000 euros. Even less is earned in Schleswig-Holstein and Bremen. In these countries, the gross wage for these professions averages 50,000 euros. According to the surveys of the job portal, the amount of the respective salary depends on the extent to which the economic sector is represented in the federal states and which focuses it forms. Here too, demand determines the price.

Supply chain managers earn the most

Also due to the task to be taken on, the gross wage in the economic sector under consideration can quickly be below or above the average wage. In disposition, for example, the annual starting salary is around 32,000 euros gross. The employees in the areas of process management and purchasing earn significantly more. They can look forward to a starting salary of more than 40,000 euros. Supply chain managers earn even more. Their starting salary is above the 50,000 euro mark and with appropriate professional experience and qualifications, they can quickly climb to an annual salary of up to 80,000 euros. If you then take on additional personnel responsibility, you can increase your salary by around a third.

Industry and salary

The business sector “purchasing, logistics and materials management” is represented in very different branches. And depending on the area of work, the earnings are quite different, according to the salary report. At the top are companies from the pharmaceutical industry. They pay their “logisticians” an average gross annual salary of over 65,000 euros. Somewhat less, around 60,000 euros gross, are paid by representatives of the machine, automotive and metal industries as well as from the oil, consumer goods and energy / water supply sectors. Logisticians have to accept further compromises when hiring in the fields of medical technology or aerospace. The gross annual salary there is between 55,000 and 60,000 euros.

More experience also means more salary

The jobs in logistics are complex. They require either training or a degree. As in other industries, academics have an advantage here too. According to Stepstone, the average gross salary of an academic in the logistics industry is between 60,000 and 65,000 euros. Non-academics, on the other hand, only get 50,000 euros gross. But you can also earn more through professional experience. The average starting annual salary of the entire logistics industry varies - depending on the position - between 30,000 euros and 50,000 euros gross. After just 10 years of work, this starting salary increases by around 60% to up to 80,000 euros gross.

According to the Stepstone Salary Report, significantly more money can be earned in other industries. This is because the occupational field of “transport and logistics” is at the bottom of the ranking of average wages - followed by the consumer and durables, wholesale and retail, and food and beverages sectors. Top salaries, on the other hand, are paid in the vehicle construction / supplier, chemical and oil processing industries and in the pharmaceutical industry.
