Charitable and non-profit organizations

In this article, we are going to explain how to complete the verification step of the onboarding process as a charity / nonprofit. You can also check out our Frequently Asked Questions.

1. Give us information about your organization

When you register as a charity / nonprofit, you have five options to choose from:

If you are a registered charity are, (d. H. They are registered with the Charity Commission as a separate organization):
  • Explain us belowWhat industry is your company in? in short, what you are collecting payments for.
  • Select “Registered Charity” from the menuCharitable / non-profit organization
  • Enter your charity number
  • Enter your official name and address for the organization
  • Enter in the fieldyour dataYour name, your home address and your date of birth.
  • Enter in the fieldTrustee Data the names and dates of birth all Trustees registered with the Charity Commission.
  • If you are not a registered trustee, please email us at [email protected] and include a copy or scan of photo ID (i.e. passport or driver's license) as well as proof of your address (i.e. utility bill) For one of the named trustees.
  • Enter underSupport contact details an email address and telephone number where you can reach your customers / donors.
  • Enter underContact details for billing Enter the name and email address of the person we should contact regarding GoCardless fees and payouts.
If the trustees registered with the Charity Commission change, please notify us by email.
If you are a Boy Scout or similar organization and you are not registered as a registered charity:
  • Explain us belowWhat industry is your company in? in short, what you are collecting payments for.
  • Choose Liberated Charity (ex. Boy Scout Group) from the menuCharitable / non-profit organization
  • Enter the name and address for the organization
  • Enter in the fieldyour dataYour name, your home address and your date of birth.
  • Enter underSupport contact details an email address and phone number where they can reach your customers / members.
  • Enter underContact details for billing the name and email address of the person we should contact about GoCardless fees.
z. B. a sports club or a society):
  • Explain us belowWhat industry is your company in? in short, what you are collecting payments for.
  • Select "Unregistered Club or Society" from the menuCharitable / non-profit organization
  • Enter the name and address for the organization
  • Enter in the fieldyour dataYour name, your home address and your date of birth.
  • Enter underSupport contact details an email address and telephone number where you can reach your customers / donors.
  • Enter underContact details for billing the name and email address of the person we should contact about GoCardless fees.

2. When you're done, clickSubmit data, to go to the next section

Once you have entered and submitted your details for all of the required steps, there are some pending verification checks that you will need to complete. How many checks have to be carried out depends on what we were able to verify automatically and what additional entries are required from you.

However, at least one verification transfer must be made to confirm your withdrawal bank account. You can find more information here.

How do I know I have pending verification reviews?

If our system cannot automatically verify your personal information (name, date of birth and home address), we need to verify your identity with the help of documents.
Once you have all of your Company data a little yellow banner may appear at the top of your dashboard:

Click the link to Add data- This will redirect you to a secure verification portal where you can get aPhoto ID and one Proof of your address, z. B. be able to upload an electricity bill (this electricity bill should not be older than six months).
Why do I need to personally verify myself when acting on behalf of a charity / nonprofit?
We are regulated as payment processors by the Financial Conduct Authority. Due to strict regulations, we have to screen merchants from whom we collect payments for charities - this includes the account administrators.
We understand that the process is very laborious, especially for registered charities. However, security and compliance are our top priority and give us the opportunity to offer an excellent payment processing system - we appreciate your cooperation!

Why do I need to provide details of all of my charity's trustees?

For registered charities, we need to collect the names and dates of birth of all registered trustees. As an FCA-regulated payment processing company, we are required to do so.
We'll compare the details entered with the appropriate charity register and must have the details of all trustees before we can complete verification of your account.
