10 tips to avoid nervousness and stress in the workplace

1. Coordinate tasks

First of all, it can help you create a to-do list of all of your things to do. Then you also prioritize them according to importance and urgency - so you can see at a glance what you have to do next. If you can also estimate the approximate time required for the individual tasks, you are well organized!

2. Make the workplace fit for work

Tidying up your workplace takes some time, but it increases your productivity in retrospect. So first sort out everything physical, that is, handwritten notes, important letters or documents, working pens, etc. When you're done with this, you should also clean up the inside of your computer. To do this, you put the many desktop files in specific folders, delete unimportant things and structure your (chaotic) filing system.

3. Reduce availability

Do you want your task to be completed by a certain date or time? Then you should definitely try to reduce constant interruptions at work! To do this, switch off your mobile phone for a while during the processing time, switch off the email notifications and, ideally, still put on headphones. Because even if you are not listening to music, your colleagues will think twice about whether they really need to speak to you or not.

4. Fresh air

No matter whether you go outside for a short walk or just open the window - feeling and breathing in the fresh air has a calming and invigorating effect at the same time. With the new oxygen, it works again with the right concentration!

5. Asking for help

If you become aware that you will not be able to complete your given tasks by the set deadline, it is best to ask your colleagues or your supervisor for advice in good time. As long as you can logically justify the failure to complete the task, your admission will likely be seen as positive rather than negative. It shows that you can assess your own abilities and capacities and that you are not afraid to ask others for help. In doing so, you prove your excellent team player qualities, because you are not concerned with yourself, but primarily with completing the task for your company on time.

6. Perform relaxation exercises

The easiest way to relax in the workplace is through various breathing exercises. They are quick and effective and ensure that your top-heaviness is well balanced. Especially when you are under time pressure, you should treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in order to increase your concentration and thus your effectiveness at work and thus ultimately save time. These exercises are most effective when you do them really purposefully and consciously.

7. Accept the challenge

Many people only become productive under certain pressure to perform, others prefer to complete their tasks a few days before the actual deadline. But no matter what type of organization you are, a challenging task can push you to your limits and thus promote your personal development. Of course, the additional effort involved should still not affect your daily tasks - and this is exactly where the pressure to perform arises. 8. Use lunch break

If you get the feeling that you can't actually afford a break - then you should still take one! Multitasking in the sense of eating and working at the same time only ensures divided attention and thus less concentration. So take a break for lunch, even if it's shortened. It ensures that you briefly break out of the flow of power, generate energy and then go back to work with a clear head.

9. Say "no"

Nobody can do hundreds of tasks at once, even if you sometimes want to. It is therefore important to learn to assess yourself and your own capacities. Once you've mastered this, the more difficult step comes: Saying “no” to the boss. Of course, it's not that easy at first, but if you take on too many tasks and then don't finish half of them, it throws you in a bad light. So it's better to only take on the tasks that you can actually do - your boss will appreciate that!

10. Make free time

After a stressful week at work, you just want to lounge on the couch at home and relax? That's okay, but you should still plan on doing a few other activities. Exercise, for example, can reduce a lot of stress hormones so that you can start the week fresh and relaxed on Monday!
